Women fill the new body and expression workshops of the "En moviment" program, to the rhythm of percussion

The project In motion, to the rhythm of percussion The Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu has consolidated in this 2025 the percussion groups and, at the same time, has opened its gaze toward movement and expressiveness corporal. With the support of theBarcelona City Council and various cultural entities of reference, the program, aimed at users of the Community Rehabilitation Service (SRC) of Numància who live with mental health problems, works not only on musical abilities, but also on active listening, social inclusion and memory.
Esther Curto, occupational therapist of the Service and responsible for the activities carried out in collaboration with theXamfrà Music School, highlights the experiential part of the new body activities. “Participants can connect with emotions and express themselves without the need for words”, she points out. Through movement, participants work on non-verbal communication and self-confidence.
Regarding the increase in women's participation, Curto points out that “the body and expression activity has been adapting to their demands by incorporating elements of”. Furthermore, the fact of being part of a mostly female group, says Curto, favours a climate of trust and security that facilitates mutual support, the creation of bonds and the sense of belonging.”
The success of this activity adds to the percussion workshops that have been successful for years, which allow improving concentration, coordination and attention, while reinforcing group cohesion.
The Collaboration with Xamfrà
The collaboration between the Community Rehabilitation Service (SRC) of Numància and Xamfrà brings great benefits to the participating people. The fact of developing these activities at Xamfrà has been a key factor in promoting social inclusion. The space, characterized by its warmth and openness, facilitates the creation of bonds and offers a safe environment where participants feel welcomed, valued and part of a larger community.
