Parc Sanitari SJD is taking another step towards transparency with the digitisation of the Historical Archive collection, which contains the medical records of people admitted to the institution even before the 20th century. To bring this information closer to the public, two online enquiry forms have been set up, which will facilitate and expedite information requests both from relatives interested in delving into their personal history and from researchers and professionals conducting historical research.
Digitising the historical documentary collection ensures the preservation of unique documentation while significantly improving its accessibility.
The new enquiry forms are aimed at two distinct profiles. On the one hand, people seeking information related to relatives, family history or personal documentation and, on the other, researchers, students and professionals interested in consulting the documentary collections for studies, publications or research projects.
The importance of historical memory
The historical archive at Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu contains clinical and administrative documentation of great heritage value, with records dating back to the late 19th century. The preserved documents include over 25,000 medical records, admission, discharge and death registers, books with healthcare information and institutional documentation linked to the history of the former Sant Boi psychiatric hospital.
The comprehensive digitisation of this collection has made it possible to go beyond mere documentary preservation. The project has culminated in the creation of a comprehensive inventory and an ordered, structured and easily searchable database, which facilitates locating information and optimises the management of enquiries.
With this action, Parc Sanitari SJD reinforces its commitment to preserving, disseminating and making accessible the documentary heritage in its custody, and makes a fundamental part of the institution’s historical memory available to the public.
