The 8th Sports Gathering “Let’s Play/Make Space for Mental Health” brings community and sport together in Viladecans
Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu celebrated yesterday the 8th Sports Gathering “Let’s Play/Make Space for Mental Health”, a well-established event that uses sport as a tool for inclusion, coexistence and the fight against stigma in mental health. The initiative, organized by the Community Rehabilitation Services (SRC) of the Parc Sanitari SJD, featured the participation of students from the Institut Mestres de Viladecans and the collaboration of the Ajuntament de Viladecans.
The gathering, held at the Podium Viladecans Joan Masgrau, included different sports disciplines —football, basketball, volleyball, badminton and yoga— in a format that favors participation and coexistence between people with and without mental health problems, in a community and normalized setting.
Intergenerational Participation and Educational Value
In this eighth edition, users of various services and social clubs in the territory participated, as well as around eighty students between 16 and 18 years old, who had previously taken part in the Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu’s Educa program. In total, around 120 people, distributed into eight teams, shared a day where the only differentiating element was the colors of the jerseys, a symbol of equality and mutual respect.
Sport, Health and Social Cohesion
In addition to promoting healthy lifestyle habits, the event reinforces the sense of belonging to the community and highlights the importance of creating shared spaces that foster a more inclusive, community-oriented and accessible mental health.
