'Patient safety from the start!' is the slogan of this year's campaign, which focuses on ensuring safe care for children from birth

It is an opportunity to raise public awareness, foster cooperation among stakeholders, and mobilise global action to improve patient safety

Every child has the right to safe, quality healthcare, but newborns and children are especially vulnerable to risks. A single safety incident can have lifelong consequences for a child's health and development. World Patient Safety Day is held every year on September 17. In 2025 it is dedicated to ensuring safe care for every newborn and every child, from birth to the age of nine.

This year's slogan, 'Patient safety from the start!'emphasises the urgent need to act early and consistently to prevent harm throughout childhood and reap benefits throughout life.

World Patient Safety Day is an opportunity to raise public awareness, foster cooperation among stakeholders, and mobilise global action to improve patient safety. This World Health Organization campaign calls on families, caregivers, healthcare professionals, health leaders, educators and communities to work together to prevent avoidable harm in paediatric care and build a safer, healthier future for all children.
