The Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu gardens, a new climate shelter in Sant Boi
The Metropolitan Network of Climate Shelters is growing and in 2025 there are now 244 climate shelters
This week, the Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu gardens, in Sant Boi de Llobregat, will become part of the Metropolitan Network of Climate Shelters (XMRC). With this new addition, the municipality now has 10 facilities with conditions of thermal comfort that offer safety and rest to residents facing more frequent extreme temperatures.

The Metropolitan Network of Climate Shelters is growing
In 2025, 58 new facilities have been added to the XMRC, bringing the total for the network to 244 climate shelters: 71 parks, 151 facilities and 22 swimming pools. They will be available during the hottest months in 31 metropolitan municipalities.
526,000 people in the Barcelona metropolitan area (16% of the population) are considered especially vulnerable to heat, and 30% of the vulnerable population cannot afford energy bills.
