The training provision grows with around thirty new residents and the Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation speciality

The new intake features local and international talent
Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu has welcomed a total of 28 new residents this year, thus achieving the highest figure in recent years. This new class marks a significant milestone: for the first time, it includes a resident specialising in Anaesthesiology and Post-Anaesthesia Care, which extends the range of training opportunities, enhances the institution’s clinical complexity and builds on the new and growing teaching model.
The introduction of this residency programme is a turning point in Parc Sanitari SJD’s training strategy. This new speciality reflects Parc Sanitari SJD’s ambition to evolve and meet the needs of the Catalan healthcare system while cementing the institution’s position as an increasingly comprehensive training centre.
This year, the new residents are split across the following specialities:
- MIR in Anaesthesiology and Post-Anaesthesia Care: 1
- MIR in Psychiatry: 5
- MIR in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry: 4
- PIR in Clinical Psychology: 5
- IRR in Mental Health: 6
- IIR in Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing: 1
- IIR in Geriatric Nursing: 1
- MIR in Internal Medicine: 2
- MIR in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology: 1
- MIR in Gynaecology and Obstetrics: 1
- MIR in Geriatrics: 1
The welcome ceremony, held today at the Rise Center, also welcomed the eleven external residents from the Costa Ponent Multiprofessional Family and Community Care Teaching Unit whose referral hospital is Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu: five in Primary Care Nursing and six in Family and Community Medicine.
Diverse talent from all over the world
This year’s intake brings together local and international talent. There are sixteen residents from Catalonia and twelve from other countries (Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Italy and Argentina). This diversity adds value to the training process and enhances the centre's global and inclusive approach.
This new cohort brings the total number of residents trained at Parc Sanitari SJD between 2023 and 2026 to 94, a figure that illustrates the sustained growth of its training project. This growth is reflected not only in numbers but also in the quality and diversification of specialities, involving the gradual rollout of new training areas such as Anaesthesiology and Post-Anaesthesia Care which shape the centre’s future.
The arrival of this new class reaffirms Parc Sanitari SJD’s commitment to excellence in training and generational renewal in the healthcare sector. The challenge is to become a flagship teaching centre which can attract talent and address the healthcare system’s current and future needs.
A very special welcome
The event was attended by members of the various clinical departments and the training programme for the new residents was unveiled.
Finally, they also had the chance to explore the gardens and the most distinctive spots on the site in an escape room specially designed for the occasion.
