The VII Arts in Health Day will highlight the impact of culture on emotional well-being

in Arts in Health, Conferences, News

  • Promoted by Torrents d'Art, the conference will begin with a dialogue about happiness between singer Joan Dausà and pastry chef Christian Escribà, who will address the value of prescription and new alliances between culture and healthcare

  • The conference is part of the Peripheries programme. Art, Mental Health and Community, which includes a programme of activities from 5 to 18 May that will combine the description of experiences with art workshops open to the public and stimulating collective creation processes

On Thursday 8 May the Dr Antoni Pujadas Auditorium will host the 7th Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu Arts in Health Conference, with the theme Culture and art, assets for health and happiness.

Singer Joan Dausà and well-known pastry chef Christian Escribà will open this year's Arts in Health conference with a conversation about happiness. They will share personal experiences that have changed their perspective on their life purpose. Both music and pastry, understood as tools of artistic expression, awaken emotions that connect with our essence. The two creators will invite the audience to think about them.

The conference will also feature two round tables with experts from the fields of health and culture. Carmen Cabezas, Martín Correa, Begoña Trujillo and Guillem d'Efak will reflect on Cultural rights, resilient communities and social prescription. At a second table, Sílvia Duran, Montserrat Verdú, Clàudia Cedó and Sebastià J. Santaeugènia will reveal The keys to new alliances between the cultural and healthcare sectors.

The users' point of view

The aim of the conference is to highlight the value of art in improving people's quality of life, promoting communication and alleviating pain. This is why it is so important to analyse the impact of culture on social inclusion, especially in the fight against stigma and loneliness, and to highlight the challenges in promoting real and effective Arts in Health programmes in Catalonia.

The conference will also feature the testimony of users and professionals, who will give first-person reports on how art and culture have impacted their emotional well-being, and the participation of the Radio Nikosia collective, consisting of people diagnosed with mental health problems.

The event is aimed at professionals in the fields of health, social action, arts and culture, as well as organisations and institutions dealing with mental health care, and members of the public who are interested.
