The Maternal-Child Area recorded 4% more births than the previous year, improving on 2023 figures

Complaints decreased compared to 2023, despite the volume of patients served and the increase in care activity

The 2022 territorial reorganization expanded hospital care to over 40,000 new citizens

Sant Joan de Déu Sant Boi Hospital achieved peak global activity across all its areas of operation for the second consecutive year. Emergency visits increased by 5.2% compared to the previous year, translating to over 75,000 annual visits and a total of 80,360 triages. The Maternal-Child Area follows closely, with a total of 1,112 births recorded this year, 4% more than in 2023.

In other areas of the Hospital, figures are also higher compared to the previous year. In the case of Day Hospital sessions, where outpatient treatment is provided without admission, figures rose by 4 percentage points compared to 2023, reaching nearly 19,000 annual visits. It is also important to mention the total number of hospital discharges. Throughout 2024, nearly 16,000 people were treated at the Sant Boi hospital centre and discharged, a figure that represents a 4% increase compared to the previous year recorded. Additionally, more complementary tests (radiology, ultrasounds, endoscopies, etc.) from Primary Care have been handled.

Maximum care activity with a positive public response

According to data from the Citizen Services Department, complaints recorded at the Hospital decreased by 18.4% compared to 2023, despite the increase in patients served and care activity. "Despite the volume we are handling at our hospital since the territorial reorganization, complaints received in the last year have not increased with the rise in hospital activity; on the contrary, we recorded 115 fewer," stated Dr. Luis Lores, director of Sant Joan de Déu Sant Boi Hospital, who is committed to continuing this approach and providing the best possible hospital care.

On the other hand, the entire Hospital has recorded more than 200 expressions of gratitude from patients and families, especially directed toward nursing and medical care professionals, as well as administrative staff. Among the services receiving the most gratitude were Emergency Services, Geriatrics, Patient Management, Obstetrics, and Internal Medicine.

First results of territorial expansion

In December 2021, the Department of Health announced that Sant Joan de Déu Sant Boi Hospital would also become the reference hospital for over 40,000 residents of municipalities near Sant Boi de Llobregat. Residents of Cervelló, Corbera, La Palma de Cervelló, and Vallirana stopped being treated at Moisès Broggi Hospital and Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Hospital and began visiting Sant Joan de Déu Sant Boi Hospital. The reorganization began in January 2022 and continued throughout the year.

This change, implemented three years ago, increased care pressure at the Hospital during the transition and the first year with the new reorganization. The following years were key to stabilizing this new situation. The team of professionals at Sant Joan de Déu Sant Boi Hospital is working to make this centre a pioneering regional hospital. Over the past two years, the dedication of professionals has contributed to reducing waiting lists, while new technologies have been introduced in operating rooms and hospital research has been promoted as a future challenge.
