- The conference places special emphasis on the paradigm of Interventional and Precision Psychiatry, from a biopsychosocial and comprehensive person-centred perspective.
- The latest updates on advanced treatments, such as esketamine, non-invasive and invasive neuromodulation techniques, will be presented, and precision psychopharmacology, clinical trials with psychedelics, and the fundamental role of psychology and nursing will be addressed.

On 21 May, the Treatment-Resistant Depression Unit of Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu, together with the Sant Joan de Déu Research Foundation, will organize the 3rd Conference on the Approach to Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD), which will take place at the Antoni Pujadas Auditorium (at the centre's headquarters in Sant Boi de Llobregat).
Treatment-resistant depression is a complex clinical condition that affects approximately 40% of people with a diagnosis of depression who do not achieve adequate remission after several treatments. This situation makes clinical management difficult, worsens the prognosis, and increases the risk of chronicity.
In this context, the conference will offer an updated, evidence-based view of the main key concepts of TRD, the factors of resistance, and advanced management strategies, both for the acute episode and for the prevention of recurrences.
The program places special emphasis on the paradigm of Interventional and Precision Psychiatry, as well as on combined and adaptive treatments, from a biopsychosocial and comprehensive person-centred perspective.
During the conference, the latest updates on advanced treatments will be presented, such as esketamine, non-invasive neuromodulation techniques (NIBS) – including Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) –, as well as invasive neuromodulation techniques such as Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). The precision psychopharmacology, the clinical trials with psychedelics, and the fundamental role of psychology and nursing in the comprehensive care of people with treatment-resistant depression will also be addressed.
The conference is aimed at mental health professionals and other healthcare sectors involved in the care of people with TRD.
